Hope begins with a single step.
Join the Jane Goodall Hike for Hope — a nationwide fundraising journey that culminates in your very own hike on Saturday, October 3rd and Sunday, October 4th, 2026. Funds raised support the Jane Goodall Institute of Canada's critical conservation efforts.
For decades, Dr. Jane walked — through forests, across continents, and into the hearts of people around the world — to encourage everyone to come together and create a world where animals, people, and the environment could all thrive. Now it’s our turn to walk for her.
With the Jane Goodall Hike for Hope, people across Canada are invited to lace up, step into the outdoors, and raise funds to ensure that the work Dr. Jane championed can continue for generations.
Let's walk in Dr. Jane's footsteps — and honour her legacy — together.
Dr. Jane always said that hope isn't passive.
Instead, she said that hope was something we created through our choices, our compassion, and our courage — even in the face of big challenges.
And with the Hike for Hope, every step you take turns that hope into real change.
We're inviting people across Canada to join this movement and connect with the natural world. Whether you are in the city, in the country, or somewhere in between, everyone is welcome to participate — from the youngest trekkers to the most seasoned adventurers.
On October 3rd and 4th, 2026, hikers across Canada are going to take part in this event — demonstrating that collective effort creates lasting impact.

How you can take part
Hike
Pick the date that works best for you — October 3rd or 4th — and lace up your shoes. Hike wherever you feel most inspired, and challenge yourself at your own pace.
Celebrate
Log your hike and celebrate your success! Make sure you thank those who donated to your hike, and let others know how much fun you had getting out into the natural world.
When are you hiking?
The Jane Goodall Hike for Hope takes place on Saturday, October 3rd and Sunday, October 4th, 2026. Pick the date that works best for you — or join both days!
If you are unable to hike then, you can participate on another day that fits your schedule. Although you won't be hiking at the same time as others across Canada, every step you take still supports Dr. Jane's mission — and your impact still counts.
When you hike, you are supporting:
Rescued chimpanzees, who are getting the care they need.
With your support, the Jane Goodall Institute can continue to rescue chimpanzees and provide critical care to more than 150 individuals at Tchimpounga Sanctuary. Together, we can make sure our closest animal relatives get the second chance they deserve.
Community members, who are leading conservation projects in countries across Africa.
When you raise funds for the Jane Goodall Institute of Canada, you are ensuring our team can keep partnering with community members who are protecting forests, creating sustainable incomes, implementing nature-based solutions to climate change, and much more.
Young people, who are leading the way with environmental projects across Canada.
By participating in this Hike, you are helping support more than 14,000 young leaders who are creating school gardens, developing composting programs, planting native plants, and more through Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots program and with our A.P.E. Fund microgrants.
